Say it had viruses quarantined or something, would it release those viruses? I plan on re-installing it shortly after, but I’d like to know the risk factor here.

My security center disappeared so how do I look to see if all is working okay. I have McAfee antivirus, but can’t open it, but when I talked to a Dell tech he told me not to worry that I can’t open it not to mess with it, that it’s working fine. So I never need to do an antivirus scan on my computer?

1) How to check firewall, antivirus auto updates are running?
2) Don’t need to do antivirus scans on my computer?

THANKS!

Theresa

recently, i kept on getting pop ups for antivirus, most of them claiming that my computer is at risk and show statistics of bytes of data that might be infected. i know i have a virus in quarantine but it hasn’t been active for a long time. i tried downloading one of the suggested software, but my old antivirus recognized it as a threat and quarantined it.
can i trust any of these ads? ( malware wiped, antivermin, etc)
and how can i get rid of the virus on my computer?

plz help, thanks.

What’s the difference in terms of protection?
I know is that trials last for 30 days and the bought ones last for a year.
So which is better in terms of protection? The antivirus free trial or product? Or are they the same? Thanks in advance!

Well pretty simple. I need a good, effective FREE anti-virus program. It can be packaged with anit-spyware or what ever but it needs to be good and free. Oh and please no free trials, or shareware, only freeware.

Thanks a lot and I’ll be sure to try them all and the best one will get the best answer. And first come first serve.

Thanks for all your suggestions,

I’ve upgraded to Windows Service Pack 2 on my windows xp system…and now LiveUpdate on the Norton AntiVirus doesn’t work. I’ve tried everything except re-install Norton. Any suggestions?

I would like an antivirus software program that is the newest and has the best protection, if possible.
