currently i am using Norton, and i am fed up with it, it misses a bunch of treats, and slows my computer down. I am ready to switch to a better one, if you have any suggestions. I dont mind if i have to purchase it or if it is free i am just looking for something that is really efficient.

My home computer says it’s has so many thousands of viruses, but when I run a scan it says I have none, but this Antivirus xp 2008 continues to stay on my home computer, how can I get rid of it?

They are like adware programs, I think, and they both have these little icons in my taskbar in the lower right hand side of my computer… They keep popping up and telling me that I have spyware and viruses on my computer… I know that it’s not true, but ya know, they are very annoying and they take up much needed space on my hard drive!
Oh yeah, and I guess I have to clarify… Because some people like to be smart *****… They do not appear in the Add/Remove Programs window…

My computer has it, but it’s not registered so I can’t manually remove it. We also have spy sweeper that doesn’t seem to pick it up. So I downloaded a Rogue, but that didn’t pick it up either. Then I downloaded Spy Doctor. It picked it up, but I had to pay to get rid of the Antivirus Xp 2008. Is there ANYWAY at all to get rid of it?! This is getting stressful!!

Goddess Kim,you are awesome! The six step System Restore process worked! Thanks.I wish I could give you all my remaining points.Another ?.I am up for renewal of NOD 32,which takes up less space than most AV software. In your opinion, anything out there similar to NOD 32,but free?

i currently have avast! antivirus and the windows firewall that came with my vista os. i was wondering what was a good free firewall that doesnt take too much space and that i can just turn it on and wont have to worry about it. or should i just stay with the windows firewall? oh and also, when i download it where does it go? in my c or d drive.

When I try to run Nod or Spybot, it just says … is not a valid Win32 application’ so now I’m basically without any protection. Do you have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?

I have had the latest version of Symantec antivirus software on my computer for several months, and up until the past week, the daily scan that I’ve set to occur every morning now doesn’t seem to actually be scanning any files. I’ll go back to my computer several hours after the scan was set to begin and I’ll see the message that either the scan is beginning or that it’s scanning a particular file group, but the scan never actually finishes. It still reads that zero files have been scanned so far, but the message at the top of the Symantec window indicates that a scan is in progress. Before all of this started, it would show a running tally of the number of files scanned while the scan was in progress.

Also, I don’t recall ever having seen any actual malicious files found by Symantec on my computer, although I also run AdAware anti-spyware every few days and it has found files that Symantec has not.

Could both of these things indicate problems with my Symantec files?
I had good results with Symantec on my desktop computer, which is running Windows ME, but I’ve got XP on my laptop, which is the computer in question. I’ve been satisfied with AdAware as far as finding spyware.

What is AVG?
I’m not sure which version I’ve got. I installed it last October. I’ve got Windows XP on my computer. The file version says 14.0.0.89.
