Where can I get a free antivirus for Windows Vista?

i would like it to be under $40. i want something that will not use much memory and slow down my computer, but something that is very reliable and not complicated to use. my norton runs out in 7 days. should i purchase something else or do you all think norton is pretty good?

iv already tried www.download.com and www.grisoft.com but the files come out currupted.
