I have had the latest version of Symantec antivirus software on my computer for several months, and up until the past week, the daily scan that I’ve set to occur every morning now doesn’t seem to actually be scanning any files. I’ll go back to my computer several hours after the scan was set to begin and I’ll see the message that either the scan is beginning or that it’s scanning a particular file group, but the scan never actually finishes. It still reads that zero files have been scanned so far, but the message at the top of the Symantec window indicates that a scan is in progress. Before all of this started, it would show a running tally of the number of files scanned while the scan was in progress.

Also, I don’t recall ever having seen any actual malicious files found by Symantec on my computer, although I also run AdAware anti-spyware every few days and it has found files that Symantec has not.

Could both of these things indicate problems with my Symantec files?
I had good results with Symantec on my desktop computer, which is running Windows ME, but I’ve got XP on my laptop, which is the computer in question. I’ve been satisfied with AdAware as far as finding spyware.

What is AVG?
I’m not sure which version I’ve got. I installed it last October. I’ve got Windows XP on my computer. The file version says 14.0.0.89.

I work on an HP1410, WIndows XP, cable modem, online all the time. I have scanned with Norton Antivirus, Webroot Spysweeper, Lavasoft Adware and AOL antispyware.

While I was at neopets earlier I got a popup, then my computer froze briefly. I recently crashed my computer due to having a virus and I haven’t downloaded anything other than the newest version of flash and stuff. I have the only account on this computer but when I try to bring up task manager it says my computer administrator has disabled it. Also my background turned black and says something about my computer being in danger! I’d like to know where I can get a free antivirus program, and know how to be able to use task manager again. If iyou need to know, I have windows xp.

What are some antivirus and antispyware utilities which are NOT incompatible?
I mean, they can be used at the same time without crashing windows xp?
